La Chaux-de-Fonds is a city and the administrative center of the La Chaux-de-Fonds municipality in the Neuchâtel canton in Switzerland. La Chaux-de-Fonds is also a winter sports resort in the Jura Mountains located at an altitude of about 1km. The mountain city of La Chaux-de-Fonds was inhabited almost 10,000 years ago, but the first colonization was made in the 14th century. Then La Chaux-de-Fonds was an agricultural area. In the mid-16th century in the city was built the first church and at the end of the century La Chaux-de-Fonds became an important trading region located at the crossroad between Neuchâtel and Franche-Comté. But the period of industrial growth began in La Chaux-de-Fonds in the 18th century with the developing of the watch-making and lace industries. Even today the economy of La Chaux-de-Fonds is mainly based on the industry and watch-making. Here operate such famous companies as Cartier, Girard-Perregaux, TAG Heuer, Corum, Breitling, Juvenia, the British Masters, Movado, Ulysse Nardin, Invicta, Gallet, Bell & Ross and others.

La Chaux-de-Fonds with the population of about 38,000 people is placed in the list of World Heritage by UNESCO as a watch-making region. Here tourists can visit the popular International Museum of Watch Making. La Chaux-de-Fonds has a developed transportation system including mainly trolleybuses and its own Les Eplatures Airport.
