La Chaux-de-Fonds

La Chaux-de-Fonds is a city and the administrative center of the La Chaux-de-Fonds municipality in the Neuchâtel canton in Switzerland. La Chaux-de-Fonds is also a winter sports resort in the Jura Mountains located at an altitude of about 1km. The mountain city of La Chaux-de-Fonds was inhabited almost 10,000 years ago, but the first colonization was made in the 14th century. Then La Chaux-de-Fonds was an agricultural area. In the mid-16th century in the city was built the first church and at the end of the century La Chaux-de-Fonds became an important trading region located at the crossroad between Neuchâtel and Franche-Comté.
